Antonio Juliano
Antonio Juliano is the founder and former CEO of dYdX, a decentralized exchange (DEX) supporting margin trading, spot trading, lending, and borrowing for Ethereum and Ethereum-based digital assets. He is also an advisor at Magic Eden, an NFT exchange, and is a former software engineer at Coinbase. [1][2]
In May 2024, Juliano stepped down as CEO after seven years of heading dYdX.[6]
Education
Antonio Juliano's education started at Sewickley Academy which he attended from 1999 to 2011. During his time there, he engaged in various activities such as Chamber Choir, Varsity Lacrosse, Soccer, Programming Team, and Math Team. [2]
He further pursued his education at Princeton University, obtaining a BSE in Computer Science from 2011 to 2015. Alongside his studies, Antonio participated in extracurricular activities including the Glee Club, Club Lacrosse, Colonial Club, and Opera Company. [2]
Career
Antonio Juliano began as a Software Engineering Intern at MongoDB in 2014, contributing to the Kernel Storage team's work on the MongoDB database. [3]
Antonio then joined Coinbase as a Software Engineer from 2015 to 2016, achieving milestones like launching services in Canada and Singapore and leading a banking microservice project. [3]
He transitioned to Uber in 2016, working as a Software Engineer on the Money Team, where he implemented new payment microservices. [3]
In 2017, Antonio founded Weipoint, a search engine for the decentralized web that can be used to interact with Ethereum smart contracts. [4]
He then co-founded dYdX, a decentralized exchange for cryptocurrencies, in 2017, leading its growth as Founder and CEO. [3]
His influence extended to Magic Eden, where he became an Advisor in 2021. In 2022 he featured in the Forbes 30 under 30 for the Finance sector and was in Cointelegraph's Top 100 people in crypto and blockchain. [3][5][1]
In a May 13, 2024 blog post, Antonio Juliano announced his decision to move from dYdX daily operations to the position of chairman and president. He wrote:
"I’m stepping down as CEO of dYdX Trading In., transitioning to Chairman & President. As I realized I did not need to be CEO, I worked to shepherd other leaders at the company on their own leadership journeys, until one of them was ready to run the company himself. I have no plans for what comes next for me, and no idea what I’ll do."[6][7]
The decentralized exchange will be led by Ivo Crnkovic-Rubsamen, a former trader and dYdX chief strategy officer.[8]
