Axie Infinity is a blockchain-based trading and battling game that is partially owned and operated by its players. Inspired by popular games like Pokémon and Tamagotchi, Axie Infinity lets users collect, breed, develop, battle, and trade token-based Axies.
With over 500 different body parts to choose from, these Axies can take on a wide variety of forms, including aquatic, beast, bird, bug, plant, and reptile components. Every type class has four rarity categories for its components: common, uncommon, extremely rare, and legendary. Axies are highly customizable and often unique and strange due to the fact that they can have any combination of body parts.
Axies are generally non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with unique strengths and traits that may be utilized in 1v1 combat with three axies at once. The winning team receives experience points, which can be used to evolve an Axie's bodily parts or level up their stats. These Axies can breed to create novel and distinctive progeny that can be sold or used on the Axie market.
Axie Infinity was created in 2018 by Sky Mavis — a team primarily based in Vietnam.
It was co-founded by Trung Nguyen and Aleksander Larsen.
Trung Nguyen is the current CEO of the platform.
An ERC-20 coin called Axie Infinity (AXS) was introduced on the Ethereum network. Ethereum's proof-of-work (POW) consensus method protects it as a result.
Early in 2021, Axie Infinity intended to move its NFT tokens—such as Axies, Land, and other in-game item tokens—from the Loom Network to Ronin, an Ethereum sidechain that was specially constructed for that purpose.
Ronin is an application-specific side chain built just for Axie Infinity.
Sky Mavis, the developer of the Axie Infinity game, created it with the goal of supporting practically fast transaction confirmations, lowering gas expenses, and assisting Axie Infinity in scaling.
Axie Infinity (AXS) tokens have a total supply of 270 million tokens. Out of this, around 53.5 million tokens were in circulation as of mid-November 2020.
In total, 11% of the total supply was allocated to participants in the Binance Launchpad IEO sale (each Axie Infinity token price was $0.10) and 4% was sold in a private sale. In addition to this, 29% is allocated for staking rewards, 20% to the play-to-earn pool, 21% to the team, 7% to advisors and 8% to the ecosystem fund.
Based on the current release schedule, as indicated by Binance Research, 100% of AXS tokens of 270M will be circulating by early 2026.
Axie Infinity (AXS) trades on a variety of exchange platforms, including Binance, Huobi Global, Coinbase, Bithumb, KuCoin, Gate.io, and Kraken.
The link between Axie Infinity and Smooth Love Potion has resulted in various trading pairs, including SLP to ETH and SLP to BNB.
Axie Infinity is a pioneer of the Play-to-Earn (P2E) concept, which allows gamers to earn cryptocurrency and NFTs through gaming activities. Users in the online game participate in turn-based fights, but the primary difference is that gamers have control over their characters, land plots, resources, and other in-game things of the universe.
AXS along with SLP are earned through various platforms of Axie infinity e.g. Axie Origin, Axie Classic, Axie Homeland etc.
Players engage in 1 vs 1 mode with 3 axies at a time, except in Homeland.
Origin and Classic has different seasons to let players grind to get on top of the leaderboard, especially in Axie Origin.
It also enables users to breed, create, and trade ecosystem gaming characters, commonly known as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or Axie animals. These virtual pets have their own class, distinct characteristics, and a set of features. Axies are collectible and can be sold on the in-game marketplace P2P Axie.
