Yoav Weiss

Yoav Weiss is a security fellow at the Foundation and the co-founder of TabooKey and MobileSpaces, working as the CTO for both companies. He is well known for his work on the Ethereum Foundations' account abstraction standard. [1][2]

Career

Yoav Weiss started his career in 1995 as a Core Developer and Security Expert at Check Point Software Technologies, where he worked for 4 years. In 1999, he joined Entercept Security Technologies as a Unix Team Leader, and he held this position for 1 year and 4 months. [3]

From 2000 to 2001, Yoav Weiss served as a Founder and CTO of IdentiSoft, a position he held for 1 year and 2 months. In 2004, he became a Director of New Technologies at Discretix and held this position for 3 years and 1 month. [3]

From 2006 to 2009, Yoav Weiss worked as a Chief Architect at Neocleus. He then became one of the co-founders of MobileSpaces and worked as the CTO from 2010 to 2014. [3]

Yoav Weiss worked as a CTO of Pulse Secure Mobile from 2014 to 2017. He also served as a CTO at TabooKey from 2018 to December 2019. During his time in TabooKey, he presented his solution to the complicated process to access decentralized apps on Ethereum through his EIP-1613 presentation at EthCC 2 in March 2019. [3][4]

Ethereum

As of May 2022, Yoav Weiss has been working as a Security Fellow at the Ethereum Foundation while also working as a self-employed Security Consultant since January 1996. One of his main roles has been developing the account abstraction technology for , which enables the deployment of smart contract wallets on Ethereum with arbitrary verification logic. [8]

“So now, users don’t need to think about writing down 12 words on a piece of paper, but instead, they are able to add and remove devices and include recovery options with a friend or a lawyer,” Weiss said.

He has made several appearances at conferences, representing Ethereum, explaining the intricacies of the new technology and the advantages that come with ERC 4337. One of his main goals as of now is to make on-chain adoption as simple as possible whilst maintaining security, especially for newcomers. [3][5][6]

"I am focused on improving usability and security for the next billion users, making it easier for the rest of the world to join us. I don’t think the next billion users are going to use private keys and write walls of text on a piece of paper; we need to abstract it away. That has been my focus: Making it easy to develop wallets so that users don’t even need to know that there is a private key involved."

On March 1, 2023, during WalletCon in Denver, Yoav Weiss, a security researcher from the Ethereum Foundation, announced that the primary contracts for ERC-4337, commonly referred to as "account abstraction" by blockchain developers, had undergone an audit by  and were approved for use on Ethereum mainnet and all Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible networks, including , , , , and Chain. [7]
