Yibo Duan
Yibo Duan is a Canadian-trained software engineer and entrepreneur who is a co-founder of Tread.fi, a cryptocurrency trading technology company, where he serves as head of engineering.[1][2]
Education
Duan pursued a dual academic path in Canada between 2010 and 2015, combining computer science with business studies. At the University of Waterloo he completed a Computer Science and Business Double Degree, earning a Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an academic focus on concurrency and algorithms on the computer science side and marketing on the business side.[3][1] The program's coursework included algorithms, artificial intelligence, and databases in computer science alongside consumer behaviour and marketing strategy in business.[3]
The double degree was administered jointly with Wilfrid Laurier University, where Duan was awarded a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing over the same 2010–2015 period.[3][1] During his studies he took part in intramural sports including soccer, hockey, softball, and ultimate frisbee, and was involved in street dance and music performance and production.[3]
Career
Early Engineering Roles
Duan's earliest professional experience came through internships spanning project management and software development on three continents. In 2011 he worked as an assistant project manager at Pfizer in Beijing, China, where his responsibilities included creating team communication websites and determining and scheduling workflow.[3] In early 2012 he was a software engineering intern at Salesforce in Toronto, Canada, working on mailing features and debugging, and in early 2013 he returned to Toronto as a software engineering intern at Peraso Inc., focusing on test automation and embedded software development.[3]
After completing his studies, Duan began his full-time career in the United States. From March 2016 to June 2018 he was a software developer at Avant, a financial technology firm, in Chicago, Illinois.[3] He then joined Amazon as a software development engineer in Seattle, Washington, a role he held from June 2018 to March 2023 — a tenure of four years and nine months that formed the longest single position of his career before he moved into entrepreneurship.[3]
Tread.fi
In March 2023 Duan co-founded Tread.fi, a cryptocurrency trading technology company, where he serves as head of engineering.[1][2] He was the company's third co-founder, joining David Jeong, who serves as chief executive officer, and Weishuai Yang, who serves as chief technology officer.[2] Announcing his arrival, the company described Duan as bringing experience in building enterprise-facing applications at scale, drawing on his background at Amazon.[3]
Personal Projects
Outside his professional work, Duan has maintained a set of software side projects, several of them tied to the digital collectible card game Hearthstone. Since September 2014 he has worked on Hearthstats, a tool for tracking Hearthstone match statistics; associated code repositories include an automatic uploader for the HearthStats.net service.[3] His broader body of public code spans academic and open-source work, including contributions to DefinitelyTyped, a repository of TypeScript type definitions, and to qmk_firmware, keyboard controller firmware for the Atmel AVR USB family.[3]
