Jamie Coutts

Jamie Coutts is an Australian market technician and cryptocurrency analyst who serves as Chief Crypto Analyst at Real Vision, the financial media company founded in 2014 and headquartered in New York.^[1] He is also the founder of Helios Analytics, a proprietary digital-asset research and consultancy firm.^[1]

Education

Jamie Coutts earned a Bachelor of Business in Economics and International Business from Queensland University of Technology (1996–1998). He later completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (1999–2001), followed by the Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) qualification from the International Federation of Technical Analysts (2002–2006) and the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) qualification from the CMT Association (2012–2013). He also obtained the NASD Series 7 qualification in 2000. ^[1]

Career

Based in Sydney, New South Wales, Coutts holds the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) and Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) designations and has built his work around blending macroeconomic, technical, and quantitative analysis with crypto-specific fundamentals.^[2]​^[3] Coutts spent roughly two and a half decades in traditional financial markets—working in trading, sales, and research across Sydney, London, and Singapore—before turning his focus to crypto research, first at Bloomberg Intelligence and later at Real Vision.^[1]

Coutts joined Bloomberg in 2014 as a Buyside Equity Specialist in Singapore, working with investment and front-office teams on research, quantitative analysis, and ESG-related matters. From January 2022 to October 2023, he served as a Crypto Market Analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence in Sydney, where he helped develop the firm's digital asset research offering. His work included valuation frameworks, blockchain performance benchmarks, crypto sector classification, index development, and digital asset data and product initiatives. ^{[1] [3]}

In November 2023, Coutts became Chief Crypto Analyst at Real Vision, where he produces research on digital asset markets through reports, videos, and data-based analysis. His work includes developing valuation frameworks for blockchain networks, including an Economic Network Intensity model intended to assess Layer 1 networks. ^{[1] [4] [3]}

Coutts founded Helios Analytics in November 2023, a firm focused on digital asset investment research and consultancy services.

Coutts has been involved with the CMT Association as a Chapter Chair and contributor. He has published research and commentary on technical analysis and cryptocurrency markets and has participated in association events addressing crypto asset frameworks and investment approaches.

In June 2026, Jamie Coutts appeared on the Milk Road Crypto podcast in an episode titled “The Best Crypto Bet Is No Longer Bitcoin.” He discussed factors influencing cryptocurrency investment beyond price performance, including growth, onchain activity, AI adoption, and real-world utility.

In February 2026, Jamie Coutts hosted Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments, on Real Vision for a discussion about the potential impact of quantum computing on Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market.
