Career

Early career

Sean Geng began his career as a part-time software engineer at Innovation Works, where he worked between 2010 and 2011. He subsequently joined Pixelmess as Creative Director, overseeing the studio's creative team and design projects. In 2013, he worked at Powered Analytics as a developer and user interface designer, contributing to the design and development of the company's interface before the business was acquired by Target Corporation, which served as a basis for later work with blockchain.

Later in 2013, Geng co-founded Kryptotrader, serving as both Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer. The platform focused on cryptocurrency-denominated securities trading and tracking and incorporated machine learning into its predictive analytics. He remained with the company until its acquisition approximately one year after its launch.

Smoke Cartel

In 2013, Geng founded Smoke Cartel, an online retailer and distributor of cannabis accessories, CBD products, and lifestyle goods. He served as Chief Executive Officer until 2018 before assuming the role of Chief Technology Officer, a position he held until 2021.

During this period, Geng also held advisory and board positions at several organizations. He served on the advisory board of 13 Bricks Clothing from 2017 to 2021, was a member of the board of directors of Open Savannah between 2018 and 2019, and worked as Director of E-commerce at Lifeist under a contract arrangement from 2019 to 2020.

High Tide

After the acquisition of Smoke Cartel, Geng joined High Tide as Chief Technology Officer in 2021. In that role, he became part of the company's executive leadership team and was responsible for overseeing e-commerce initiatives and the expansion of Canna Cabana's digital operations.

Coinbase

Geng joined Coinbase as an Engineering Manager in 2022. During his tenure, he worked on consumer-facing products across Wallet, Retail, and NFT initiatives and contributed to the development of cryptocurrency-related products. He also co-authored two patents and received the company's High Impact Award.

NPC Labs and B3

In 2024, Geng co-founded NPC Labs, where he serves as Co-Founder. The company raised $21 million and develops infrastructure for consumer-focused cryptocurrency applications, including the gaming platform b3.fun.

Geng is also a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of B3. His work at the company includes the development of crypto agents based on decentralized inference, as well as Web3 software tools and front-end components such as ASCII Text, a three.js-based text renderer, and procedural WebGL environments.

In addition to his work at B3, Geng has collaborated with Anomaly on projects involving on-chain gaming and integration with platforms including Telegram. During an interview published by Onchain Media on September 26, 2025, Sean Geng discussed the structure and development of B3, describing it as an ecosystem that extends beyond blockchain gaming to include consumer applications, developer infrastructure, and decentralized finance on Base. He stated that the project combines user-facing applications, infrastructure, and enterprise-oriented services within a single ecosystem.

Geng stated that B3's product development process begins with the creation of internal applications, allowing the team to identify technical and usability requirements before developing infrastructure for external use. He referred to AnySpend, a cross-chain liquidity aggregation protocol, and BondKit, a token infrastructure framework, as examples of products developed from this approach. He also described Basement as a platform for discovering and accessing onchain games, while Stake to Win was presented as a staking application that incorporates game-based mechanics.

Geng also discussed B3's relationship with the Base ecosystem, stating that the project is intended to operate alongside Base by providing infrastructure such as application-specific chains, rollups, and developer tools for projects with specialized technical requirements.
