Career

Sean Yu's career is marked by a consistent focus on payment systems, financial technology, and scalable engineering. His professional history spans over a decade across several major technology firms and startups. He began his career in 2009 as an iOS Engineer at Terriblyclever Design, LLC, contributing to app development before the company's acquisition by Blackboard. He then joined Blackboard Mobile, where he served as Lead iOS Engineer from 2009 to 2011 before becoming Senior Engineering Manager in 2012, overseeing iOS development and product architecture.

Yu later co-founded the mobile payments startup Evenly, which was acquired by Square in 2013. Following the acquisition, Yu worked at Square as a Software Engineer from 2013 to 2015, developing distributed systems and syncing protocols for the company's Register app. He then joined DoorDash as an early engineer, serving as a Staff Engineer and Engineering Manager from 2015 to 2018, where he led engineering teams and product initiatives. Subsequently, he worked as a Staff Engineer at Coinbase from 2018 to 2019, focusing on blockchain-related infrastructure, and then as a Staff Software Engineer at Airbnb from 2019 to 2022, contributing to large-scale technical systems.
